Nursery
Caring teachers, that not only care about your child’s school life/attitude/behaviour, but outside that too, extremely supportive and helpful.
The nursery class at Turnfurlong Infant School is led by two experienced Early Years teachers. They work alongside experienced support staff who hold relevant Early Years qualifications.
The ethos of the nursery is to provide a happy and sociable environment where every child is treated as an individual. All staff work closely together to care for all of the children but each child has a named member of staff who is their 'key person'. They get to know your child very well and become your child's 'special' person at nursery who will support them as they move from being at home to being part of our nursery community. Your child's key person will also meet with you at intervals to discuss your child's progress and development.
The nursery uses the document 'Development Matters' to plan for teaching and learning. A copy of this document is attached below.
The indoor and outdoor learning spaces in the nursery are carefully organised to support and stimulate children's learning and development across the seven areas of learning in the Early Years Foundation Stage. During the session, the children are able to 'free-flow' between the indoor and outdoor learning space as part of the daily routine. They also have times as part of a group that are adult-led such as singing and story times and sharing snack together.
Planning for learning in our nursery class starts from our observations of the children's interests. We work closely alongside parents and carers and, where possible, this partnership begins with a visit to a child's home before they start with us. The nursery also run regular themed 'stay and play' sessions where parents and carers can join us to experience and find out more about what their children are learning at nursery.
